Augmented Surveying

Augmented Surveying is a concept that explores how augmented reality could support surveyors working in the field. The system overlays key spatial data and measurements directly onto the physical environment, allowing surveyors to visualise information without relying solely on traditional handheld equipment. By integrating real-time data with the surrounding landscape, the interface aims to improve accuracy, efficiency, and decision-making during site work. Ultimately, the concept demonstrates how emerging AR technologies could enhance existing surveying workflows while keeping field operations streamlined and practical.

Overview

This project was developed for an internship showcase with AcQuire, a geological software company, where I explored how augmented reality could support surveying workflows. Drawing on my experience working at a surveying company, I conducted research with colleagues to better understand the need for efficiency and accuracy in the field. Using existing AR technologies as a foundation, I designed a concept interface that visualises survey data in real time while remaining practical for field use. The main challenge was envisioning how digital augmentation could integrate naturally into a surveyor’s workflow while keeping the interface simple and functional.
